Beaucanon Estate 2013 Cuvée Louis Napa Valley Cabernet Franc
👃🏽 On the nose, its nearly like a vanilla cherry cola: the vanilla notes are the strongest, followed by a wave of cherry cola that is so uncanny, you nearly feel the effervescent tingle that you’d get from the real thing.
👅 On the palate, it is brighter: slightly-sour cherry and raspberry come through first, sprinkled with cocoa powder, vanilla and baking spices. All these flavors are lifted by a very bright acidity that shines like a beacon through this wine. It’s medium bodied with medium, dusty tannins - together with the aforementioned acidity, this wine has all the classic characteristics of the Cabernet Franc grape.
🤔 The main difference is I found this to be less herbal than its Loire Valley siblings, as well as sweeter on the palate with more pronounced vanilla flavors. This makes me wonder if the wine was aged in American oak?
Overall, a delicious wine that will certainly evolve in the glass (if I can wait that long, ha!)
