Experience: Chinato, NYC

🤩 What makes an amazing cocktail bar? It’s not just the cocktails themselves. It’s the atmosphere, the service, even the other guests. At Chinato, the space is intimate: the room is centered around a bar with four seats, where a lucky few get to watch the mixologists make their masterpieces up close. Happily for me, I was one of the lucky ones.

🍍As for the drinks: I was having a hard time deciding what to try first, so the mixologist asked if he could recommend my tasting journey. So glad I agreed! First came the Rum and Coco Cola, which was playful and lightly effervescent, with bright and balanced tropical flavors of coconut, pineapple, and citrus. I could’ve had several of these 😅

🍄 Next came the Gray Luh, which I was told would be my “more savory” cocktail. This was, without a doubt, the most complex cocktail I’ve ever had. It smells like a freshly baked, savory pastry. The palate was equal parts mushroom, coconut, and herbs, with a warm, nearly buttery finish.

😮‍💨 And then finally: the boozy finale, The Peppermint. This was as refreshing as it was strong, with flavors of mint, smoke, and coffee.

I left here blown away by the experience I just had. No question: this is the best cocktail bar I’ve ever been to. Nothing has compared to this one in terms of complexity of flavors. Needless to say, I shall be back in a few weeks
