About Last Night: Dinner with the Greats
I went to my dad’s house for a pre-Christmas dinner. My dad is an avid wine collector, with a focus on California Cabernet Sauvignon and Italian Super Tuscan. Since it was the holidays, we decided to have a ‘raid the wine cellar’ night - where we picked two powerhouse wines that we wanted to taste back-to-back.
In the end, our group chose Far Niente 2019 and Double Diamond 2021. One, a black fruit, spices and tobacco powerhouse that is muscular in its approach. The other, more delicate, with red and purple fruit and florals dotted with tea-like flavors. Don’t get me wrong: both of these wines are powerful. But what a treat to compare the different ways they express it.
We even snuck in a 2006 Tignanello in the beginning.
Let’s say this : it was a lovely dinner ☺️. With some sore heads the next day!
